the official book club by The Shit No One Tells You About Writing
Hosted by CeCe Lyra
Books with Hooks BC is a virtual book club for writers. The idea behind it is simple: first, we all read the same book. Then, we meet online — four times a year, always on the last Thursday of each season. Meetings are kicked-off by CeCe Lyra leading a text-based discussion on the craft of storytelling, noting specific examples of techniques used by the author. We tackle hooks, first pages, character arcs, scene, central conflict, tension, emotion, endings, writing on a line level, and more.
If it sounds like we’re opening the book up to see how the author did, that’s because we are! Finally, because we all love that cozy book-club feel, we segue into a group-wide discussion, with the option of splitting into smaller groups. It’s the perfect way to spend an evening…that is, if you’re a book worm who also happens to be a writer! All three of us at TSNOTYAW love teaching — and we believe that reading is the best creative writing instructor.
